Assignment 3: Twin Behavior: Intervening

Amee and Aaron are 6-year-old twins of Josh and Lacy. Josh is an alcoholic and unemployed, and Lacy works two jobs to feed the family. When Lacy arrives home late from work, Josh is drunk after spending the day managing the children. Josh picks a fight with Lacy over petty issues and starts hitting her. Amee and Aaron try to protect their mother. As they tug on their father’s leg, he stops hitting Lacy, falls to the floor, and begins to cry. This has been a nightly ritual since Josh lost his job six weeks ago. Before losing his job, Josh used to hit Lacy on a sporadic basis, usually when he had too much to drink. The children have developed a morbid fear of their father, and they are extra careful not to annoy him.

At a parent/teacher conference, Lacy is told that her twins’ aggressive behavior on the playground at recess is becoming an issue. Their teacher expresses concern and suggests that Lacy might want to investigate early intervention for her children. Without discussing the violence being experienced in the family, Lacy agrees with the teacher to pursue intervention for the twins’ behavioral issues.

·

Identify and integrate various psychoeducational or supportive approaches that might be used at the community level, such as at community centers, schools, and social service agencies, to assist children like Amee and Aaron, who are at risk from family violence, to more effectively cope and develop resiliency.

·         Be sure to address whether there may be differences between the responses seen for Amee and Aaron and provide your reasoning.

·         Explore issues of gender, diversity, and ethics within the intervention approaches.

Response should be at least 2 pages long, and include a cover page and reference list.

 Assignment

After much labor and management conflict, this integrated managed care consortium and over 25 unions created this labor management partnership (LMP). Today, it is considered a model of union and labor partnerships for the future of labor and management relations. This collaboration involved over 90,000 workers and changed the fabric of union and management relationships. Instead of being a competitive bargaining process, it became a collaborative partnership of mutual respect to a goal of mutual gains. The collaboration resulted in improved services (increased patient satisfaction), improved financial results, and happier employees. Many are encouraging this model to become a standard for future union and management negotiations. Review the resources provided in your phase resources. Develop a PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following:

Union: Office Professional Employees International Union ( OPEIU) here is a link below

https://epf.kp.org/epf/hr/unsecure/workspace/reference/mas/laborcontracts/OPEIU_Contract.pdf

Part 1

  • Name 1 union that was part of this partnership? (OPEIU)
  • Discuss what type of union (craft, industrial, general, white collar) and whether it is a federation or local union.
  • Identify 5 key elements that made this partnership so successful.
  • Do you think this model could be used in other organizations? Justify your answer.

Part 2

The value of the partnership was the fact that both parties bargained in good faith and were able to come to agreement on all mandatory collective bargaining items. It is important to understand details of this process. Answer the following:

  • What is good faith bargaining?
  • Define an impasse. If labor and management comes to an impasse, does that mean that they did not engage in good faith bargaining? Justify your answer.
  • Name 3 items that are mandatory in the collective bargaining (e.g., items that must be in the union contract). Why do you think these are mandatory items for a collective bargaining contract?
  • Name 1 illegal item that is forbidden by law to be included in the collective bargaining process. Why do you think the law forbids bargaining around this item?

All 8 questions must be answered in the notes section of powerpoint. 1 slide per question and must be thorough in detail

As President Obama exits, how do we judge his legacy?

President Barack Obama greets supporters after giving his farewell address in Chicago on Tuesday.
President Barack Obama greets supporters after giving his farewell address in Chicago on Tuesday. The Associated Press
BY THE EDITORIAL BOARD
Barack Obama has often spoken of bending the arc of history toward justice. Our 44th president did so in many ways, indeed by his mere presence.

Even after eight years, we too easily forget how historic it truly was for the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas to be elected to our nation’s highest office.

Audaciously, Obama tried to transform the nation – and why not, after his transcendent 2008 campaign of “hope and change” galvanized so many people in America and around the world?

A gifted orator, Obama governed with grace, calm and dignity. He can claim many successes, kept most of his campaign promises and leaves office with his highest approval ratings in at least four years, approaching the outgoing popularity of Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan. But it turned out that many Americans were not quite as hopeful as he believed, or as ready to change as much as he imagined.

As his presidency ends, the country is changed, but also divided.

Judging Obama’s legacy is more difficult in this venomous political atmosphere. And there’s even more uncertainty because President-elect Donald Trump is vowing to roll back many of Obama’s key initiatives.

Still, fair-minded people should be able to conclude that America is better off now than eight years ago. His accomplishments are all the more remarkable because some people, Trump among them, questioned his legitimacy from the very start and Republicans in Congress consistently sought to block him.

Obama took office four months after the Wall Street crash and during the worst downturn since the Great Depression. He saved the auto industry and helped nurse the economy back to health. The unemployment rate, which hit 10 percent in 2009, is the lowest since the recession, the number of private-sector jobs has grown for 75 straight months and the economy has added more than 15 million jobs since 2010. But as Obama says, more must be done to help the middle class and those left behind in inner cities and rural areas.

Obama pushed an ambitious domestic agenda, beyond preventing economic collapse. He vastly expanded health care coverage, though the Affordable Care Act is far from perfect and hasn’t done enough yet to reduce costs. As Trump and Republicans try to repeal Obamacare, it will become clearer how much good it did and how difficult it will be to replace it with something better.

On another generational issue, Obama put the U.S. on course to get serious about global climate change, requiring cars to get 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, and signing the historic Paris accords that were adopted in December 2015. Though some of his executive actions have been blocked by the courts, he rightly pushed us toward clean energy and away from fossil fuels.

President’s Medal of Freedom surprise leaves Vice President Biden honored and in tears
Associated Press

Our society already was moving toward more tolerance, including LGBT rights. Still, his support – repealing the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in the military and not defending the Defense of Marriage Act – strengthened the shift. When the U.S. Supreme Court made same-sex marriage the law of the land in 2015, the White House was bathed in rainbow colors.

Obama, however, was unable to break the deadlock on immigration reform. He used his executive powers to protect young people, but also presided over a record number of deportations. Trump was only too happy to exploit fear and anger on this issue.

In one of his last big initiatives, Obama started to reverse the costly mass incarceration of nonviolent drug criminals that hasn’t made us that much safer, but has devastated families and communities, especially poor ones.

On foreign policy, Obama started with soaring rhetoric about bridging the gap between the West and Islam and fostering global harmony. That won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. While he restored relations with Myanmar and Cuba and secured the Iran nuclear weapons deal, he became much more of a realist. Even he might admit now he was naive about the violent forces in the world.

He came into office promising to end the war in Iraq and finish the fight in Afghanistan. He basically did, though he’s leaving more troops than he planned in both nations as he exits. He intervened in Libya, yet after drawing a red line in Syria in 2013, he let dictator Bashar Assad cross it, and many more died in that bloody civil conflict.

In our post-9/11 world, Obama took up the fight against terrorism, and ordered the operation that killed Osama bin Laden and has weakened al-Qaida. But global terror is still one of the biggest threats facing America, and the Islamic State rose on his watch.

In fighting terror, Obama returned America to its values by banning torture and trying to close the prison at Guantánamo Bay. Yet he vastly expanded the use of drones, despite civilian casualties. Obama also expanded mass surveillance of Americans (though he later supported reforms) and increased espionage prosecutions of whistleblowers.

While we have had homegrown attacks in Boston, Fort Hood, Orlando and San Bernardino, we have not had a large-scale attack on the homeland by a foreign terrorist group. How many of us would have bet on that eight years ago?

And how many would have wagered there would be no egregious corruption scandals in eight years? Sure, there were mistakes, such as Operation “Fast and Furious” gun sales to drug cartels, the deaths at the U.S. mission in Benghazi and the Internal Revenue Service targeting tea party groups. But we didn’t see perp walks of high officials. It may seem like a rather low bar, but with the incoming administration we may see how big a deal that is.

Obama is a president whose tenure will look better and better as time passes. He was smart and thoughtful, he was able to calmly brush off criticism and he inspired people, especially the young. Americans will learn soon enough how good we had it.

In his farewell speech Tuesday night, Obama spoke of his achievements, but also warned that our democracy is under threat – from lack of economic opportunity, racial divisions, political strife and weakening of common values – and called upon all of us to defend and strengthen it.

If we heed his words, that could be his most lasting legacy.

Scenario: In Week 3, you selected a product or service that you believe your organization should invest capital resources to develop the product or service for sale. To speed up the new product investment, you decide to write a memo proposing and advocating for the launch of a new product or service to the company president.

Create a memo proposal using the AIDA model in a Microsoft® Word in a minimum of 1,400 words.  You will add an introduction and conclusion, and your paper will include the following components:

  • Convince your audience to invest capital resources to develop the product or service you intend to sell and explain your rationale.  See Figure 9.5 – Persuasive Message Using AIDA model.
  • Gain credibility (for yourself and your request) and (2) to make your readers believe that helping your product/service will indeed benefit the company. Close with a request for some specific action, and make that course of action as easy to follow as possible to maximize the chances of a positive response.
  • Include secondary research to support your argument, related to your product and/or service.
    • Explain what you will do in case the selected product or service does not initially sell as much as expected.
    • Indicate potential digital channels for marketing your product or service.
    • Consider cross-cultural and multinational implications.

Note: Main points from this memo will be included in the Week 5 Persuasive Presentation.

The following guidelines will help you effectively format specific memo elements, Business Communication Essentials, 7/e (Pg. 410):

  • Addressees. When sending a memo to a long list of people, include the notation See distribution list or See below in the position at the top; then list the names at the end of the memo. Arrange this list alphabetically, except when high-ranking officials deserve more prominent placement. You can also address memos to groups of people–All Sales Representatives, Production Group, New Product Team.
  • Courtesy titles. You need not use courtesy titles anywhere in a memo; first initials and last names, first names, or even initials alone are often sufficient. However, use a courtesy title if you would use one in a face-to-face encounter with the person.
  • Subject line. The subject line of a memo helps busy colleagues quickly find out what your memo is about, so take care to make it concise and compelling.
  • Body. Start the body of the memo on the second or third line below the heading. Like the body of a letter, it’s usually single-spaced with blank lines between paragraphs. Indenting paragraphs is optional. Handle lists, important passages, and subheadings as you do in letters.
  • Writer’s initials. Unlike a letter, a memo doesn’t require a complimentary close or a signature, because your name is already prominent at the top. However, you may initial the memo–either beside the name appearing at the top of the memo or at the bottom of the memo.

Children that are being bullied become unsuccessful in school. They are scared to go to school and lose interest in school. Children that are always being bullied are the ones that suffer from no self-esteem due to the negative attention from the bully. Also, children that are anxious, depressed and with disabilities or special needs. Children that are bullies often grow up to be aggressive and abusive adults.

Abstract

The number of adult learners who participate in online learning has rapidly grown in the last two decades due to online learning’s many advantages. In spite of the growth, the high dropout rate in online learning has been of concern to many higher education institutions and organizations. The purpose of this study was to determine whether persistent learners and dropouts are different in individual characteristics (i.e., age, gender, and educational level), external factors (i.e., family and organizational supports), and internal factors (i.e., satisfaction and relevance as sub-dimensions of motivation). Quantitative data were collected from 147 learners who had dropped out of or finished one of the online courses offered from a large Midwestern university. Dropouts and persistent learners showed statistical differences in perceptions of family and organizational support, and satisfaction and relevance. It was also shown that the theoretical framework, which includes family support, organizational support, satisfaction, and relevance in addition to individual characteristics, is able to predict learners’ decision to drop out or persist. Organizational support and relevance were shown to be particularly predictive. The results imply that lower dropout rates can be achieved if online program developers or instructors find ways to enhance the relevance of the course. It also implies that adult learners need to be supported by their organizations in order for them to finish online courses that they register for. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Assignment 3: Measures of Crime

Assignment 3: Measures of Crime

Measuring crime can be a difficult process. By its very nature, crime is something that goes undetected. Law enforcement has developed a variety of techniques to track crime, such as police reports and victim reports. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uses the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program for tracking crime; it reports crime in more than one way. All crime reporting and tracking systems categorize crime and have certain limitations.

Measuring crime involves tracking statistics such as demographic information and moderator variables related to the crimes. Moderator variables are any third variable in a correlation that affects the relationship between the first two variables. For example, we may find that gender is related to violent crime with a higher percentage of males engaging in violent behavior. However, a moderator variable would be age, with the highest percentage of violent offenders being below the age of 30.

Research US crime statistics using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet. You can also use the following:

Select a crime and write a report addressing the following:

  • Summarize the statistics from the last two reporting years. Be sure to include demographic information such as ethnicity, race, age, gender, marital status, employment status, socioeconomic group, etc., and moderator variables related to the crime.
  • Examine the reliability and validity of these statistics. Are they accurate? Why or why not? Be sure to discuss how age, gender, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic level are related to offending and representation in the criminal justice system.
  • Explain whether certain populations are overrepresented in the statistics. If so, why?

Use the textbook and peer-reviewed sources to support your arguments.

Write a 2–3-page report in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

The CISO of the organization reaches out to you, the senior information security officer, and tasks you with creating an agency-wide security awareness program

The CISO of the organization reaches out to you, the senior information security officer, and tasks you with creating an agency-wide security awareness program. He states that he will give you all of his support to complete this project (remember, this is the first component of security awareness program). He hands you a security gap analysis (the second component of a security awareness program) that was conducted, which shows 10 major security findings. These 10 deficiencies will serve as the foundation for developing the agency’s security awareness program (see the Case Document for more details on the gap analysis)

Based on the scenario provided in the Case Document, develop the Introduction to your Proposal. In your introduction, be sure to include the purpose of the proposal, address the security concerns of the chief executive officer (CEO), explain why the security awareness proposal will be vital to the organization, describe how the security posture will be addressed, clarify how human factors will be assessed, and list any organizational factors that will contribute to the status of the security posture:

The final project for this course is the creation of a security awareness program proposal. In Module Two, you will take the first step in completing this project by creating the introduction section of your proposal. Begin by reviewing the Case Document, which will provide you with information about the organization for which you are creating the security awareness program proposal. Then, based on the scenario provided in the Case Document, write an introduction to your proposal that addresses the concerns of the chief executive officer and explains why the security awareness proposal will be vital to the organization.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

  • What is the purpose of your proposal? Why is the new security awareness program vital for the organization? Use specific examples to illustrate your claims.
  • Overall, how would you characterize the security posture of the organization? What were the major findings in your risk assessment of the organization’s current security awareness policies, practices, and processes?
  • Specifically, are there human factors that adversely affect the security climate within the organization? If so, how? Be sure to consider unintentional and intentional threats to a healthy security culture.
  • Specifically, are there organizational factors that contribute to an unhealthy security culture in the organization? If so, how? Be sure to consider organizational data flow, work setting, work planning and control, and employee readiness.

What to Submit

Your paper must be submitted as a two- to four-page Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins, in APA format.

Collaboration offers the advantage of other experiences and viewpoints to confirm or challenge your own

TRANSLATION MODELS AND FRAMEWORKS

Collaboration offers the advantage of other experiences and viewpoints to confirm or challenge your own. Discussions can do the  same and for some topics, getting early feedback is especially valuable. This Discussion is one such example. As you dig into the science of translation and select a framework or model for your proposed EBP QI project, you can look to your class colleagues for a check on your choice and your reasoning.

TO PREPARE:

· Review the Week 5 Learning Resources. Pay particular attention to the featured frameworks/models, below, in the White, Dudley-Brown, and Terhaar text.

· Identify the translation science framework or model that is most relevant to your practice problem from among the following three models and consider your reasoning:

· Roger’s Diffusion of Innovations (pp. 36–39);

· Knowledge-to-Action (pp. 42–45);

· Theory of Reasoned Action (pp. 66–67).

· Assess your understanding of “translation science” and how you would explain it in the context of evidence-based practice and quality improvement.

With these thoughts in mind …
