HR Final Paper

In this final assignment, you will design a total rewards program for UBER.

Before creating the final projected total rewards program, you will have conducted a research project in which you have obtained thorough and detailed information about organizational goals, objectives, and challenges. In addition, you will have obtained information about the current monetary and non-monetary rewards and work environment of the organization and the challenges or changes (such as expansions, downsizing, changes of services or products) the organization anticipates. You will have also designed metrics to evaluate the total rewards program.

In the final paper, you will provide the research findings in a report of at least 10 pages plus a title page and a reference page. Provide at least eight sources (in APA format) in a reference list and respective in-text citations. Please be sure to use topic headings and include the following:

1.  Provide a Title Page in Academic Format

2.  Give the Introduction and Purpose for the Paper

3.  Summarize and describe the organization, including its capabilities, key goals, objectives, challenges, values, and core competencies required for success.

4.  Demonstrate your knowledge of the total rewards model by describing the current total rewards philosophy of the organization and its three categories of offerings.

5.  Identify and describe the segmentation of the workforce (drawing up our study of how to differentiate employee groups depending on their drivers, such as flexible schedules, growth potential, desire for demonstrating individual expertise or team success, low obligation and easy income, or high obligation and high income).

6.  Describe further the current requisite capabilities of the organization and the competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities) of the employees and, in your opinion, an analysis of whether the current needs will change given the issues faced by the organization.

7.  Recommend changes to the total rewards program, along with specific plans, including plans for communicating the changes and metrics that should be used by the organization to evaluate the success of the new program.

8.  Present the justification for your recommendations.

9.  Assess and discuss the risks of not implementing the program and the opportunities the program will give the organization.

10.  Provide your metrics for evaluating the total rewards program and share why you chose the ones you did.

11. Present a general explanation for the timeline for implementation in the paper and submit the timeline as a separate assignment. You should refer to the implementation task list and timeline in the paper and share that it has been submitted as a separate assignment.

12. Describe your conclusions and a summary of knowledge gained about total rewards through the activity.

13. Reference Page (with at least eight scholarly sources)

To supplement the final paper, you will develop an action plan for implementing the recommendations for the total rewards program. You are encouraged to use a Gantt chart or Pert or similar graphic to display a timeline and the interdependence or sequence of the activities.

Be sure to include how you will collect the data for each metric and how you will set the targeted goal for each metric.

A good action plan contains

  • specific and quantifiable steps
  • the order in which those steps are to be taken
  • the individuals responsible for each step
  • the individuals responsible for overall segments as applicable
  • the required resources for each step; and
  • the funding sources as applicable

The timeline adds to the presentation/paper and aids in the identification of success measures and issues/problems encountered and overcome.

Assignment 2: Expected Value and Consumer Choices

Consumers’ choices are prey to subtle discrepancies that arise in cognitive accounting. Learning how and when you are prey to these discrepancies is an important step in improving your decision making.

As the readings for this module demonstrate, people value gains and losses differently under different scenarios. For example, contestants in a game show might choose a guaranteed $10 prize over a 50 percent chance of winning $20 despite the fact that the expected values are the same.

Using the readings for this module, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, address the following:

  • What is mental accounting and how does it impact consumer decision making?
  • How might a company take advantage of consumers’ mental accounting? Give examples.
  • As a marketer, how might you frame certain decisions to benefit from the disparities that arise in one’s cognitive accounting?
  • As a consumer, how would you avoid the pitfalls posed by the inequalities of one’s cognitive accounting?

Write a 3–5-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M4_A2.doc.

Assignment 3: Preparing for the Informational Interview

Assignment 3: Preparing for the Informational Interview

An informational interview is a recommended tool for exploring career options. This assignment is designed to prepare you for an informational interview of a professional in the field of psychology. You will conduct this informational interview during Module 2. Here, in Module 1, you will create a script, design a list of questions, and identify the person you hope to interview. You also need to schedule the interview.

In M3 Assignment 2 LASA 1, you will submit a written account of the informational interview you conducted with the psychology professional.

You will ask the interviewee to describe the educational and training steps (the career paths) he or she took to reach the current position. You will also ask the interviewee to describe, in some detail, the job responsibilities associated with the position. The interview must be at least thirty minutes long. Ideally, it should be conducted in person. If that is not feasible, a phone interview is adequate.

For this assignment, do the following:

  • Begin to prepare for this informational interview by identifying the professional you plan to interview. Ideally, the professional should be engaged in a career that you hope to pursue. (You may want to identify a second candidate in case your initial choice is unable to complete the interview with you.) This professional may work in your local area, but that is not necessary. If you cannot identify a professional easily, ask your friends and family if they know anyone who works in the field of psychology. You may also want to phone your local community mental health center or social services agency to ask for names and contact information of potential professionals you could interview. Contact your facilitator for guidance if you have difficulty in identifying someone.
  • Provide the following identifying information about the individual you have selected:
    • The name
    • The job title (licensed psychologist, social worker, or case manager)
    • The level of education (a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree)
    • A description of job responsibilities or day-to-day tasks
    • The type of license, if applicable
    • The state of residence and practice
    • The e-mail address or phone number
  • Develop a list of at least fifteen questions to ask in your informational interview. Research possible questions to include using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet. Click here to download a copy of the “Job Resources” document and save it to your computer. Refer to the “Job Resources” document to do an Internet search using the search terms “informational interview questions” in order to find suggested questions. Be sure to put them into your own words for the purpose of this assignment and to give credit to your source by using in-text citations and a reference list in APA format.
  • Ask the interviewee about his or her work, academic preparation, and advice. In addition, include the interviewee’s answers to questions on the following topics:
    • The experience, skills, and knowledge necessary for success in a career in psychology or in graduate school
    • Relevant professional organizations
    • His or her views on professional ethics and academic integrity
    • The role of psychological research in his or her work
    • His or her greatest challenges and rewards
    • His or her reasons for choosing the field
  • Develop a script (word-for-word written statement) that you will use during the warm-up (meet-and-greet) portion of the interview. What will you say to the interviewee when you meet him or her? What will you do? For example, will you shake the person’s hand and introduce yourself? Include small talk of a professional nature that will serve as an introduction and explanation of the purpose of the interview. Demonstrate in your script your ability to interact professionally and effectively in a professional environment.
  • This assignment is preparatory work for the interview to be conducted later in this course. Do not conduct the interview for this assignment.

English / Rhetorical Analysis Essay

Purpose and objectives

·      Analyze a rhetorical situation and how the author effectively (or not) makes rhetorical appeals in their argument

·      Articulate and develop a critical and analytical perspective in writing

·      Develop strategies for critically engaging information and develop it in writing as evidence for arguments

The Specifics

·      In a nutshell: Summarize. Analyze. Critique. Support. Conclude.

·      Must be 3-4 pages, double spaced

·      Times New Roman, 12 pt font

·      Hook and Title

·      No in-text citation or Works Cited page needed for this assignment (see note below on research)

For this assignment, you will be given the choice of analyzing the rhetorical situation, use of rhetorical appeals, and visual elements in either a textual or visual argument. You may select one of the essays in the Practical Argument text (Part 6, Debates, Casebooks and Classic Arguments starting on page 646) OR a visual argument of your choosing. If you are going to write your essay on a visual argument, you must print it out and attach to your paper (if it’s a video clip, please provide the link in the essay).

Using the strategies discussed in class and your readings, you will analyze the argument and both summarize and assess the rhetorical strategies used. Your thesis must specifically state whether you think the author presented an effective argument based upon the strategies used, intended audience and contextual factors.

Address the following:

·      The basics – set the argument up for us by providing the author, genre/publication, title, and when was it written

·      Audience – who is the target audience? Are there preconceptions or common ground established? What is the author’s overall tone?

·      Purpose – why is the author writing this argument? What is their thesis?

·      Context – what are the historical, social, political factors that influence the argument?

·      How and where does the author employ the three rhetorical means of persuasion of ethos, logos and pathos?

·      Discuss the use or absence of evidence and stylistic techniques (110-112)

·      Does the text move you/challenge you/get you to think?

If you are using a visual argument, be sure to address the following:

·      Comprehension Clues on page 84 of Practical Argument text

·      Basic principles of design: font, color, spatial elements, use of people (think back to the group work we did in class)

·      What is the relationship between words and pictures in your visual? Are there any words in the visual? Or any words needed or does the visual stand on its own?

Getting Started

·      Find your article/visual

·      Read it over. Read it again.

o   Jot down the thesis, audience, context, tone, genre

o   Formulate your own assessment of the effectiveness of the argument

o   Turn that into your working thesis statement

Tips

·      Don’t try to do it all. Find three things to focus on and elaborate. This isn’t intended to be a complete accounting of the entire argument, just what you feel is most critical and where you think you will have the most to say in a well-written and supported essay.

·      You must develop a clear thesis statement. Do not simply restate or reword the author’s original thesis (your purpose is different than the original author’s purpose). In addition to stating your stance, your thesis should provide the reader (me) with a clear direction of where you’re heading and what you’ll be demonstrating and arguing.

·      A word on research: in order to address some of the rhetorical elements, you may have to go outside of the original text to find the appropriate information (e.g. you may need to do a little research to find the author’s background, the general understanding of a particular publication, what was happening in the world, at the time the essay was written, etc.), if these things are relevant to your thesis (and they likely will be).

·      Supporting evidence and analysis: Most of your paper will be devoted to the supporting evidence for your thesis statement. This includes (brief) direct quotes, paraphrasing/summary and your own assessment. For each point you want to make in your analysis, provide examples to support your claims. For example, if you find a place in the text where the author is using pathos to appeal to the reader’s emotions, you should quote the place in the text where this appeal takes place (if you’re going to argue that the author’s use of pathos was particularly effective, include the part where they talk about poor little puppies that need homes). Using examples to support your claims will help your reader understand why you are making the claim you are making.

·      DO NOT MAKE THIS A SUMMARY OF THE AUTHOR’S ARGUMENT. I want to read YOUR assessment and analysis. Also, paraphrase and be succinct (no lengthy block quotes).

·      “What about MY opinion on the topic?”A rhetorical analysis is much less about your emotional response to an issue addressed by the author, and more about your reaction to the process by which the author effectively achieves (or not) his/her intention. This essay is not about whether or not you ultimately “like” or “dislike” what the author has stated. It is about whether the author was successful in conveying their side (and persuading you).

·      Put a nice little bow on your paper with a solid conclusion at the end. Reiterate and reinforce your thesis statement. Your conclusion could include an important point or rhetorical method that is missing from the argument and/or a suggestion for how to utilize it to enhance the argument.

For peer review, be sure to bring TWO copies of your printed work on the due date.

HCA 340 Discussion Board Assignment

HCA 340

Discussion Board Assignment #6

In the 8th Edition it is Chapter7–The Health Care Workforce and Chapter 8—Financing Health Care

DOTN’T COPY FROM THE INTERNET!

Answer the following questions on Health Care Workforce/Personnel:

  1. The majority of schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, and other professions and their teaching hospitals are heavily subsidized by federal and state funds. Many of those graduates, when they become health practitioners, feel no obligation to society for their publicly supported education. Do health care providers who reap the benefits of high compensation and social position have an ethical responsibility to repay taxpayers by meeting the needs of the medically underserved?
  2. Technical advances in health care have spawned an ever-increasing number of specialty- trained personnel. More recently, however, hospitals and other institutions are promoting the cross-training of personnel so that they can perform multiple tasks and work more flexibly, based on institution needs. What are the implications of cross training, in terms of quality of care, costs, and efficiency?
  3. Men comprise a small segment of the nurse population, although their numbers are increasing.  Given the good income potential of the nursing profession and continuing demand, what is your opinion about why nursing does not attract more males?

Answer the following questions on Health Care Financing:

  1. Name one (1)  way each of the following has affected the costs of health care in the US?

§  The health insurance industry

§  Advances in medical care technology

§  Changes in U.S. demographics

§  Government support for health care

§  Consumer expectations

  1. If we accept the premises that resources available to meet the costs of health care are finite, and that continuing to increase dollars allocated for health care expenses carries “opportunity costs“ for the nation and society, discuss your position on the following: As a national policy should we allocate a set level of resources and apply them to achieving “the greatest good for the greatest number” (necessarily leaving some out) OR should we adopt the individualist approach of “those who can pay get, those who can’t pay, don’t?”
  2. From the patient perspective, what might be some of the positive and negative aspects of “disease management programs?”

Literature Review

LITERATURE REVIEW PAPER: Ethical issues surrounding internet therapy as well as the benefits for clients and clinicians.

Students will submit an 8 – 10 page (not including the cover or References pages) length paper summarizing 6 – 8 evidence based (meaning reports of findings arising from experimental research conducted by the article author[s] and not opinion articles or publications summarizing multiple research studies), peer-reviewed articles. These summaries must not be merely one summary after another with no meaningful connections between them, but rather the paper should integrate and demonstrate clearly how the summaries are logically related to one another in a coherent and well-articulated literature review. The paper will end with a minimum of two paragraphssummarizing points made and articulating suggestions for future research directions arising from the article reviews.

This assignment submission will be evaluated based on:

·         The degree to which the article summaries are truly integrated and logically related; arbitrary statements of “This is related to that” without supporting evidence of an actual connection will result in a significant point deduction.

·         Evidence of academically mature insight and use critical thinking skills in analyzing and relating the articles to each other and making suggestions for future research directions.

·         Clear and thorough articulation of the paper’s key points.

·         Compliance with APA paper formatting standards.

·         Minimal to no grammar, spelling or basic writing errors

Articles will be provided for this assignment and ONLY these articles can be used for this assignment.

Decision Making Under Uncertainty

Decision Making Under Uncertainty

To save on gasoline expenses, Edith and Mathew agreed to carpool together for traveling to and from work. Edith preferred to travel on I-20 highway as it was usually the fastest, taking 25 minutes in the absence of traffic delays. Mathew pointed out that traffic jams on the highway can lead to long delays making the trip 45 minutes. He preferred to travel along Shea Boulevard, which was longer (35 minutes), but rarely had traffic jams. Edith agreed that in case of traffic jams, Shea Boulevard was a reasonable alternative. Neither of them knows the state of the highway ahead of time. After driving to work on the I-20 highway for 1 month (20 workdays), they found the highway to be jammed 3 times. Assuming that this month is a good representation of all months ahead, should Edith and Mathew continue to use the highway for traveling to work?

How would you conclusion change for the winter months, if bad weather makes it likely for traffic jams on the highway to increase to 6 days per month?

How would your conclusion change if Mathew purchased a new smart-phone app that could show the status of the highway traffic prior to their drive each morning, thus reducing the probability of them getting into a jam down to only 1day per month (where on this day, the app showed no traffic jam, but a jam developed in the meantime as they were driving along the highway).

Guided Response:

In 300 words or more, please, provide your response to the above discussion question. Please, show all your calculations and explain your answers. Further, comment on how the conclusions of this problem will change if there was no uncertainty and the highway always had traffic jams, whereas Shea Blvd was always traffic jam free? Is this scenario realistic and why? Respond substantively to at least two of your classmates’ postings.
