Reorganization- Psychology

You have been asked by NoJax to come in as a consultant and analyze the business for factors that impact the organizational behavior of the company. NoJax would like to ensure that their company design is current and that their employees are as efficient as possible. You have been analyzing several elements of the organization structure and behaviors using the NoJax Company Background document to identify areas of improvement. You will use that information to provide NoJax a new reorganization plan to continue their success, to be more efficient, and to stay ahead of their competition.

In your reorganization report, address the following questions:

  • Using your behavior analysis from module 01, provide a detailed plan to positively change current employee behavior. Include at least three aspects of diversity that will have a positive impact on the behavior of the organization. What new processes and continued training plans can NoJax implement to ensure successful assimilation of new employees?
  • Utilizing the Big-Five personality traits you identified in module 02, relate them to how management can affect organization culture. How can the culture be altered in a positive manner to improve relationships with management and employees? What plan will you put in place to continue the positive relationships?
  • Include the key elements you identified in module 03 that go into creating an organization as you describe NoJax’s company structure. How can the basic structure of NoJax be improved to better align business goals and employee objectives? Include at least five elements to improve the structure.
  • Using the barriers in communication you identified in module 04, propose at least one change for each of NoJax’s barriers, so they are able to change their communication process. How will a more effective and supportive communication process have the most impact and build better relationships and a stronger culture within the company?
  • Utilizing what you identified in module 05 as the process of decision-making NoJax currently uses, how can they become more efficient and better use the negotiation process? Make sure you identify each step of the decision-making process NoJax currently uses. Then you will need to add any elements of the decision-making process that are missing. If any current step is not working or is weak, you will need to describe how NoJax can improve each of those steps to be more efficient.
  • In your proposed change for NoJax from module 06, how should each management person best use their management style to have the greatest positive impact on employees? How can management maintain a balance between the current culture and making new and improved relationships to minimize resistance to change? Include at least six elements in your plan.

screening and assessment

Please review the following clinical contexts and case studies:

1. Psychologist in Private Practice:

Client #1: Charles is a 28-year-old, married, father of a 2 year old and a 6 month old infant

Chief Complaint: “I just can’t seem to be happy with anything anymore. I’m miserable and I’m making everybody around me miserable.”

Historical considerations: Charles has been married for five years. He always expressed reservations about having children but went along with his wife’s desires to do so because he wanted nothing more than to make her happy. Since the birth of his children, Charles has had the added pressure of losing his previous job in sales and has had to settle for a job with much lower pay. Charles has also begun to drink more and has engaged in some marijuana use.

Client #2: Sabrina is a 41-year-old, recently divorced female with no children and high school education

Chief Complaint: “No matter what I do, I cannot relax, I am always stressing out about something. I feel like I’m going crazy.”

Historical considerations: Sabrina was previously married to her high school sweetheart for 20 years. Sabrina was diagnosed with fertility problems at a young age and was receiving fertility for the past 15 years in an effort to become pregnant. About a year ago, Sabrina’s husband informed her that he was having an affair with another woman from work and wanted a divorce. Sabrina had never attended college but had enrolled in an effort to advance to a higher position within her workplace. Sabrina has had difficulty since the divorce became official 3 months ago and has been struggling to maintain passing grades in school and perform within expectations at work.

2. School Psychologist

Client #1: Samuel is a 7-year-old second-grader from intact family that recently moved into the school district .

Referral Problems: academic difficulties related to reading and writing, social difficulties with peers

Historical considerations: Samuel and his family moved to a city that was 400 miles away from their original home, as his father’s job relocated to another state. Samuel had close relationships with his peers, most of whom he knew from an early age. Samuel’s previous school was much smaller and had a lot of academic resources and opportunities for more personalized instruction, which helped him because he always struggled with academics due to learning disabilities. Samuel’s current school is one of the largest in the state and has student from significantly more diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds.

Client #2: Dave is a 17 -year-old high school student

Referral Problems: failing grades, refused to follow course sequences, considering dropping out

Historical considerations: Dave was previously an active student who excelled in school and participated in sports. Dave’s mother was tragically killed in a car accident two years ago. Since this time, Dave’s father has re-married and has added three younger children (ages 7, 9, and 10) from his wife’s prior marriage to the family dynamic. There has been a drastic change in Dave’s behavior over the past six months, as he has begun to hang out with friends that are unfamiliar to the family, has been truant from school, and is always tired from coming in late.

In an expository essay, respond to the following:

  1. Identify specific historical and contextual considerations for each of the clients listed and how that would impact a plan for assessment. For historical considerations, you will add to the scenario by briefly discussing past events and issues that have led up to the current presenting problems experienced by the clients for each scenario. In your discussion of contextual considerations, you will need to refer to the context in which the assessment is being done. Your discussion should include information regarding assessment that is relevant to each context (Psychologist in Private Practice and School Psychologist).
  2. Discuss specific ethical concerns related to the assessment process for the clients listed. Be sure to reference specific ethical standards from the APA Code of Ethics in your response.
  3. Detail specifics of an initial interview for one of the clients listed above. Be sure to reference ethical issues, type of interview, methods used in conducting the interview, as well as strengths and limitations.
  4. Choose one of the clients listed above and outline a plan of assessment. List what specific types of assessments would be most appropriate and describe why they are necessary. See the unit 2 readings for specific types of assessments based on presenting issues (For example, if you chose the Beck’s Depression Inventory, you would need to describe this tool and how this tool would result in information that is relevant to the client’s issues).

  • Assessment Instructions

Note: The assessments in this course follow the human developmental sequence, so you are encouraged to complete them in order.

    Part 1: Create the Case

Create a simulated case study, relevant to your area of specialization, of a person in early, middle, or late adulthood who presents developmental challenges that could be predicted by developmental theory and/or research.

Your case should be 1–2 pages in length and it should describe:

    • The person and his or her strengths and challenges.
    • The person’s medical, family, and social context.
    • The developmental challenges evident in the person’s behavior.
    • Individual and cultural factors that theory and/or research indicate could impact the person’s development.
    • Any other factors you deem appropriate based on your understanding of the theory and related research.

To develop this case, you should:

    • Explore through theory and research stages of adulthood development.
    • Develop your case by creating a challenge for the adult who is navigating through one of the three phases of adulthood. Describe what the selected adult struggles with in this phase of his or her lifespan.
    • Develop your case study further by creating an environmental context for the adult. Include any specific issues that you want to explore through research, such as influences of a specific culture or ethnicity, specific socioeconomic status, family structure, attachment issues, and neighborhood context.
    • Maintain a resource list of the materials you consulted to build your case.

Follow current APA guidelines for style and formatting, as well as for citing your resources. Include a reference list of the scholarly resources you use.

Part 2: Adolescent Case Intervention Analysis

    Research

    Complete the following:

    • Research evidence-based interventions that have been effective in meeting the challenges of the adult you described in your case study, from the perspective of your own professional specialization (as far as possible).
      • Explain how the deficits in developmental domains or environmental contexts impact functioning.
      • State the recommended interventions that align with your specialization.
      • Include evidence for those outcomes from the professional literature.
    • Explore briefly the literature on earlier theories or research in the domain in which the adult has challenges, considering that early influences can impact development across the lifespan.
      • Explain, from the perspective of your specialization, how the earlier issues that are manifested in adulthood could be relevant.
      • Explain how the developmental history might help in understanding and determining an approach to working with an adult with the identified challenges.

    Structure of the Report

Use the following format to structure your report:

    • Title page.
      • A descriptive title of 5–15 words that concisely communicates the purpose of your report and includes the name of the fictional subject. Be sure to follow Capella’s suggested format for title pages on course papers.
    • Introduction.
      • An overview of the paper contents, including a brief summary (approximately ½ page) of the background information regarding the case study. (The complete 1–2 page case you developed will be included as an appendix.)
    • Body of the report.
      • The presenting challenges and primary issues.
      • A description of your case study adult with attention to age-expected developmental outcomes, as well as specific challenges the adult has in not meeting those milestones.
      • A description of the factors in the adult’s environment that have an impact on your selected adult’s overall development.
      • An analysis of how lifespan development theory and research may account for the presenting challenges.
      • An assessment of the potential impact of individual and cultural differences on development for the age and context described in the case study.
      • Suggestions of evidence-based intervention strategies that have proven effective in similar cases, supported by citations of research and any applicable theories.
      • Projections, based on research and/or theory, of possible long-term impacts that the current challenges may produce in the remainder of individual’s lifespan.
    • Conclusion.
      • A summary of what was introduced in the body of the paper with respect to the case study context, challenges, and interventions.
    • Reference page:
      • A minimum of five scholarly sources from current peer-reviewed journals, formatted in current APA style.
    • Appendix.
      • The simulated case study you created in Part 1.

    Other Requirements

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

    • Written communication: Write coherently to support central ideas, in appropriate APA format, and with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics.
    • Length of paper: 5–7 typed, double-spaced pages, not including the title page, reference page, or case study appendix.
    • References: At least five different scholarly resources (peer-reviewed journals).
    • APA format: Follow current APA guidelines for style and formatting, as well as for citing your resources in the body of your paper and in alphabetical order on the Reference page.
    • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Note: In graduate-level writing, you should minimize the use of direct quotes. Lengthy quotes do not count toward assessment minimums. It is your interpretation of the material and its application to practice that is assessed.

Answer the questions on the attachement based off the assignment below.

For the last two modules, you have been using a template called the Science Tool Kit to guide your work in analyzing news articles that bring the public information from scientific research. In this module, we are expanding our definition of science to include technology and engineering, since they are crucial in considering our energy resources, needs, and plans for the future of our planet.

For this assignment, we will drill down (pun intended) on the controversies that surround hydraulic fracturing, typically shortened to “hydro-fracking”, for natural gas. This process is not new, but technological innovations in recent years have made it a much more practical and widespread technique to obtain natural gas. Fracking has supporters and detractors, but many states are now allowing fracking, and the practice is so widespread and effective that the prices for natural gas have fallen precipitously in recent years. However, there have been a host of environmental concerns with the rapid increase in the use of fracking. These include health issues created by water and air pollutants, damage to once wild and pristine environments that cannot be undone, and also earthquakes.

This assignment asks you to analyze an article from a Houston newspaper by A. Kuchment that reviews recent research on the increase in the number of earthquakes in Texas. This increase has apparently been linked to the increased use of fracking techniques. The US Geologic Survey has also published information on this issue. Learn more from the following reading and viewing opportunities before you begin the assignment.

Participating in this activity will enable you to demonstrate mastery of Module Level Outcome 2.

First:

Carefully read the news article:

Next, for your comparison to the news article, your information from the “scientific community”:

The Problem: The Case of the Troubling Inquiry

The Problem: The Case of the Troubling Inquiry

At lunch one day a friend, who is an excellent mid-level scientist in the company in which you work, tells you she wants to talk with you about a problem. She has a suspicion that she is being paid less that her male colleagues and wants your help. You have just been doing some research and know that the women scientists are in fact being paid less than the men with comparable experience and comparable education in the field. The hiring practice had been to bring people in at the lowest possible salary. You know that the research shows that because women tend to be more tentative about salary, they don’t ask for top dollar. You have just completed a salary survey in your company and know that women scientists are currently being paid 10% less then men with the same credentials in many cases. Your preliminary work indicates that to bring the women into parity with the men will cost approximately $37,500 per quarter.

Here is the assignment:

Worksheet 5: For this part of the Assignment, you are asked to Be Reflective, asyou consider both how you made the decision as well as your response to theAssignment. In this segment you consider how you corrected for personal bias and your own blind spots—hubris—and have attended to the common good. This part of the Assignment must have citations and references. Use the questions as headings for each section, and write no more than a paragraph on each.● Discuss whether or not the ethical analysis made sense. As you considered the section in the Baird text that described the process that those from the deontological school of thought use for ethical analysis, what were the strengths and weaknesses of this process? What were the problems with the process? What are the sticking points?● Did you like the results? Did you like the reasons for taking the action, the rationale that is part of the deontological school of thought? Do you get a sense that you would follow these results or the rationale in real life? Why or why not?● What insights do you have about this problem that you would like to share with others? What information would you appreciate from them?● How would adding the world of emotion and conscience help clarify your decision, as described on the first page of Chapter 7 of the Baird text? Ethical maturity is often defined as not only being responsible but also considering others in the decision. Why is considering others important in the particular problem you were asked to resolve?● Consider the spiritual perspective—spirituality being defined as that which gives life and work meaning and purpose. As you begin to see yourself in light of the community, how can you (and others in the organization) begin to discipline your desires so you can live fully in the present with faith and trust, avoiding self-righteousness and self-deception?

Indian Woman in Namaste.Introduction

Scenario: Aminata and Ezra are discussing the effects of globalization as a form of modernization or Westernization of the world. Aminata points out all of globalization’s class and commercialized aspects—including the ubiquitous McDonald’s and Levis—that have negative effects on local cultures. For example, Western nations often purchase rainforests and valuable land overseas to graze cattle for cheap beef in fast food restaurants. Still, 8,000 children continue to die daily from hunger and malnutrition, around the globe, even while these Western franchises expand. They also sometimes employ child or slave labor to make many of their garments, in deplorable conditions, to import back to Western nations. She invokes the following African proverbs to lament the excessive materialism and lack of humanity reflected in globalization:

It is the human being that counts: I call upon gold, it answers not; I call upon cloth, it answers not; it is the human being that counts. ~Akan Proverb

and

An abundance of food at your neighbour’s will not satisfy your hunger. ~Bayaka Proverb

Ezra understands Aminata’s concerns but contends that globalization also produces many benefits including an increase in cross-cultural understanding, the transference of concerns for human rights and democracy, and the possibility for economic development. In fact, benefiting from one of these cross-cultural exchanges himself, Ezra quotes his American Zen teacher who often shares the famous koan: What do you call the world?

Ezra explains that while there is much suffering in the world, and we certainly should seize the opportunity for discussions and finding solutions, this koan is meant to get our minds to ask the important questions before reacting. What is the true nature of suffering? What is the real cause here? Can I effectively help a world that I see as separate from myself? Might it be more beneficial for me to deeply understand how the world is not something outside of myself that needs saving? Could daily mindfulness in my own small actions make more of an impact? (Kuruvilla, 2015).

This activity aligns with module outcomes 2 and 3.

Discussion Question

Prepare for your discussion by completing your readings and viewings. Then respond to the following:

  • Do you identify more with the position of Aminata or Ezra? What is your personal observation of these globalization issues, in light of what you learned from global ethical perspectives? Do the positives outweigh the negatives, or vice versa?
  • If some cultures are endangered by globalization, do we have a moral obligation to resist exporting our products or ideas? Explain your response, drawing upon both the Eastern and African ethical models we explored in this module. End with a proverb or koan that best reflects your own global philosophy.

Evaluation Criteria

Initial Discussion Post

Your initial post should be at least 250 words and must substantively integrate the assigned readings from the module with proper APA style formatting.

Assignment 2: RA 1—Aligning Organizational Goals

Background

With proper goal alignment, each person within an organization can clearly see the direction of the business and understand how the activities he or she is engaged in contribute to meeting the overall organizational goals. However, goals need to be tailored for each functional area (department) because each area contributes differently to the overall goal attainment.

In M2 Assignment 2, you explained the importance of goal alignment. In this assignment, you will:

  • Develop a mission statement.
  • Create a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis.
  • Devise a business strategy based on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis.
  • Develop organizational-level goals.
  • Develop departmental-contributor-level and individual-contributor-level goals aligned with the organizational goals.

Scenario

The company is a small, young consulting firm that hires recent master of business administration (MBA) graduates. Its niche market is consulting with small to midsized manufacturing companies on environmentally friendly (green) initiatives.

Its major competitors are the large consulting houses that primarily service large corporate clients and are very expensive. Until recently, the company did not see a viable market in green consulting. It is now beginning the venture into green consulting. Its approach is to retrain its senior consultants and approach its existing clients.

Instructions

For this assignment:

    • Create an organizational mission statement.
    • Construct a fictitious competitive strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis.
    • Develop a business strategy to gain a competitive advantage based on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis.
    • Select two departments (recall the concept of departmentalization that you had learned in Module 1 and think about the departments that might be found in a consulting firm). For each department:
      • Create two departmental goals that support the organizational goal.

Note: Most departments have subunits within them (For example, accounting departments have subunits such as accounts receivable and accounts payable).

  • Create three goals for two different individuals who work in those departments. Also, complete the following:
    • Briefly describe each individual’s role (job).
    • Follow the SMART goal format to create the goals.

Your final product should be a 5- to 7-page Microsoft Word document using a minimum of four sources from professional literature. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources; relevant textbooks; peer-reviewed journal articles; and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov).

Be sure you write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Use APA format

Culture and Communication

 Culture and Communication

MY CLUTURE IS THAT OF THE IRISH CULTURE ALSO ALL WORK MUST BE COMPLETELY ORIGINAL AS IT GOES THROUGH A TURNITIN PROCESS

In this assignment, you will explore your own cultural and ethnic background and analyze how this background may affect your communication. A great deal of a message is communicated not through spoken words but through the nonverbal channels. Culture and personal experience can play a large role in the transmission and interpretation of nonverbal messages. You will reflect upon your personal experience from the viewpoint of your cultural and ethnic affiliation(s) and compare it with the scholarly literature relevant to your cultural and ethnic background.

Tasks:

Watch the video, Empathy Training for Ethnic and Cultural Awareness. Afterwards, identify your cultural and ethnic background. In your response, answer the following questions:

  • In what ways do you feel your culture affects the way you communicate? (For example, eye contact or the lack of eye contact has a cultural component and can be interpreted as defiance or something similar by those unaware of the cultural context.)
  • Provide an example of how your culture has influenced nonverbal communication.
  • Discuss how nonverbal communication could influence whether or not a message is perceived accurately.
  • How is someone from a different cultural background likely to perceive your message?

Submission Details:

  • By Week 3, Day 3, post your responses in at least 3–4 paragraphs to this Discussion Area. Your response should rely upon at least three sources from professional literature. This may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov). Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., APA format); and use accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Aging includes the cognitive, physical, and social-emotional changes that occur during late adulthood. Varying cultures take different approaches to aging. At the same time, individuals within these cultures and societies may have varied and distinctly personal views regarding aging. When addressing aging in late adulthood, one must also address death, dying, and bereavement. Religious and spiritual beliefs, gender, personality, and coping style can all impact an individual’s responses to and beliefs about death (Berk, 2014). Today, web-based virtual cemeteries are a new way for people to connect and grieve with each other, even when separated by distance. Nonetheless, varying cultures approach aging in many different ways.

For this Discussion, you will examine how different countries approach aging.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Consider how different countries approach aging. As you consider different countries, think about the following:
    • Do older adults live with their children, or are they more likely to live in a nursing home?
    • Are older adults seen as wise individuals to be respected and revered, or are they a burden to their family and to society?
  • Next, select two different countries and compare and contrast their approaches to aging.

By Day 4

Post and identify each of the countries you selected. Then, explain two similarities and two differences in how the countries approach aging. Be specific and provide examples. Use your Learning Resources to support your post. Use proper APA format and citations.

By Day 6

Select one of your colleagues’ posts from which you learned something new and compare it to one of your countries’ approaches to aging.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting and answer any questions. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of your colleagues’ comments.

Discussion: Schools, Peers, and Media Influences on Childhood Behavior and Beliefs

Schools, peers, and the media can impact a child’s development. In schools, teachers play a role in encouraging academic success and student involvement. The characteristics of the school itself also can influence student involvement. For example, larger schools increase the sense of anonymity in students, and teachers are often hard-pressed to provide individualized instruction.

Peers aid in socialization, often through the act of play. Even young children begin to prefer to play with other children rather than play by themselves or with adults. Children often model their behaviors based on their peers. Peers can reinforce behaviors (which may be desirable or undesirable by caregivers or teachers), encourage socially appropriate behavior and attitudes, establish age-related values, and help children learn how to interact with others.

Although television and electronic media impact a child’s development, keep in mind that they only provide the medium for delivery of the message. The medium itself is neither inherently good nor bad. However, the harmful effects of television content (e.g., violence can increase aggressive behavior in viewers; stereotyped portrayals of ethnic and minority groups can leave viewers with inaccurate beliefs about these groups) are more readily recalled than the beneficial influences of some content (e.g., programs such as Sesame Street teach basic cognitive and pro-social skills to their young viewers).

For this Discussion, you will examine social-development theories as they relate to the impact of schools, peers, and media.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources and consider social-emotional development theories as they relate to the impact of schools, peers, and media.
  • Select a current event or news item about a child/children in which the impact of schools, peers, or media was integral.

By Day 4

Post a brief description of the event or news item you selected. Then conceptualize and explain this event within the framework of social-emotional development theories. Be sure to include references to the impact of schools, peers, and/or media specific to the event or item. Provide a reference to the current event or news item and a link, if possible. Use proper APA format and citations.

By Day 6

Respond to at least one of your colleagues’ posts and explain how diversity (e.g., culture, sexual orientation, gender beliefs) might impact individuals’ responses to this event.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting and answer any questions. Note what you have learned and/or any insights that you have gained as a result of your colleagues’ comments.
