Using the CogLab CD accompanying your course textbook, complete the Brown-Peterson experiment and create a report on the experiment.

Your project should adhere to the following guidelines:

For the main sections, it should have:

  • A title page
  • An abstract (not more than 250 words)
  • An introduction
  • A literature review
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion or conclusions
  • References

Introduction: This should be one to two pages in length. The introduction provides a brief overview of what will be covered and the purpose of the research.

Literature review: The literature review is taken in part from what you researched from the scholarly journal articles. It is a synthesis of the material you found into a cohesive review of the literature on your chosen experiment.

Methods: This section provides information on how the experiment was conducted.

Results: The results section should explain your finding in the experiment in detail.

Discussion and conclusions: The difference between a great research paper and a marginal one is the depth and originality of the discussion and conclusions section. This is where you bring together what you have learned through your research as well as through the course regarding your topic in the concluding remarks of your paper. The discussion and conclusions section should be one to two pages in length.

Reference page: Remember to follow the APA format and style.

G-BioSport Dilemma Worksheet – 4 of 5

G-BioSport Dilemma Worksheet – 4 of 5

The Problem: The Case of Helping the FBI

A friend of yours in the FBI has come to you with a problem. In response to the rising threat of terrorism in the US, the FBI is working at tracking those who might be illegally in the US or otherwise connected with unsavory practices. However, he is having trouble getting enough information to move the investigation ahead. Your friend has asked you to assist by releasing employee information as well as information about all of your sub-contractors and customers. While he does not have sufficient “probable cause” to justify a search warrant, you know that all things being equal at some point you could be compelled to release the information. You want to help prevent terrorism and assure that we are safe. You also feel strongly about non-documented workers.

Please complete each section of this worksheet. Some people find that writing the answers out on another page and then “cutting and pasting” them into the worksheet lets you think through the problem better.

If you only have time to do part of this worksheet, click the “save work” button at the bottom of this page. At any later time, you can then return to this worksheet and continue.

Be Responsible

  1. Choose an Option

Select one option to implement within your Division:

    Release the information as requested.
Do not release the information without a search warrant.
Only release information about your employees that is otherwise available in other public records filed with different government agencies.
Only release information about your sub-contractors and customers.
  2. Explain Your Decision

Using the guidelines for how to write a memo, write a memo to be shared with the rest of the leadership team which explains your decision.

When you have completed all sections of this worksheet, please click the “continue” button below. This action will save your answers and advance you to the next worksheet in this assignment. If you wish to save your current work and then return to this worksheet at a later time, click the “save work” button below. Please note that this action will truncate any response that exceeds the 8,000 character limit.

There has been an increasing interest on the part of American consumers in having genetically modified or engineered foods labeled. Currently, 64 countries require these labels and efforts are underway in over 30 states to require labeling, even though the federal government has shied away from any uniform labeling requirements. The science does not seem to support some of the concerns that people are voicing. So far, studies have not identified any health risks from consuming these foods. The FDA and USDA consider these modified or engineered foods equivalent to their non-altered counterparts, and thus not requiring labeling. The public, however, is not convinced. Even scientists and researchers will admit that these foods have been around for a relatively short time, and most studies are done on laboratory animals, such as mice, so no one can guarantee that there are no possible future adverse effects. Crops, such as corn and soy beans, have been grown using GE/GM seeds for many years in the U.S. These crops go into hundreds of processed and prepared food items most of us eat every day. In this discussion, you will get a chance to formulate an opinion based on the scientific research and share your views with others.

Completing this activity will assist you in mastering Module Level Outcomes 2 and 3.

First:

Be sure you have read the assigned materials on this topic:

Then:

  • Create your initial post in response to the following question. Be sure to support your position with facts and scientific information, not opinions. You may want to refer to both the required and optional readings provided in this module to support your position fully. Additional research through the ECLibrary is also a great idea.
    1. Should the U.S. require labeling of all genetically modified or engineered food? Why or why not?
  • As in M4D1, please select a minimum of two of your fellow students to respond to, and try to pick posts that illustrate different viewpoints than the one you selected.

Your initial post responding to this assignment should be no shorter than 250 words. Include both in-text citations and complete APA style references for all the sources you used to inform your work

week 2 discussion question 2

Regardless of a child’s unique qualities, one thing remains the same; to improve learning and behavior, children must develop strong self-regulation skills. Read the article from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), “Developing Young Children’s Self-Regulation Through Everyday Experiences.”

The marshmallow experiment is a famous test conducted by Walter Mischel at Stanford University and discussed by Daniel Goleman in his popular work. In the 1960s, a group of four-year-olds were given a marshmallow and promised another only if they could wait 20 minutes before eating the first one. Some children could wait and others could not. The researchers then followed the progress of each child into adolescence, and demonstrated that those with the ability to wait were better adjusted and more dependable (determined via surveys of their parents and teachers), and scored an average of 210 points higher on the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Read the American Psychological Association (APA) article, “Delaying Gratification.”

Reflect on the information in the NAEYC article, the article, and your text and explain how toddlers with better self-regulation skills are less likely to demonstrate behavior problems in preschool. Explain why these self-regulation skills are so important and how you will promote the learning of self-regulation. How will you deliberately teach self-regulation as part of everyday experience? Share an example of your own self-regulation skills that you can model for others.

Guided Response:

Your initial post should be at least 250 words

Self-esteem is a person’s evaluation of his or her own sense of self, which is fundamentally positive or negative (Sedikides & Gregg, 2002). This is a multifaceted construct that can be delineated further as both dispositional or enduring (trait self-esteem) or as a “transient psychological condition” (state self-esteem) (Sedikides & Gregg, 2010, p. 101). Those with extremely high self-esteem are understood as narcissistic and rely more heavily on validation from others to maintain their sense of self (Kernis & Paradise, 2002). Those with a positive self-esteem tend to have a realistic view of themselves and can maintain their sense of self independently.

For this Discussion, review this week’s media program, Week 2: The Virtual Office, and select one of the women in the program exhibiting positive self-esteem or narcissistic personality style. Explain the potential outcomes that might develop based on the woman’s behavior.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 an explanation of the difference between positive self-esteem and narcissistic personality style. Then describe whether the woman you selected in the media exhibits positive self-esteem or narcissistic personality style and explain why. Finally, based on whether the woman is displaying positive self-esteem or narcissistic personality style, explain two potential outcomes of her behavior in her work setting.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings.

Respond by Day 6 to your colleagues’ postings in one or more of the following ways:

  • Ask a probing question.
  • Share an insight from having read your colleague’s posting.
  • Offer and support an opinion.
  • Validate an idea with your own experience.
  • Make a suggestion.
  • Expand on your colleague’s posting.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.

Respond please 5 8 sentences

  • What questions do you have about the requirements for your peers’ profession?
  • What resources or individuals are you aware of that could help them clarify their career goals or requirements for their field?

My plans include earning my master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Within the state of Pennsylvania, to obtain a degree in I/O Psychologist, one does not require a license, certificate, or any other requirements. To determine that an I/O in Pennsylvania does not require a certificate, license or any other requirements, I looked on the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and looked up licensing for my state.

An I/O can be governed by a professional organization or can have no organization governing them. This all depends on where I choose to work, for example, I can freelance which means I am not with a particular organization and I am called in to help a company as my own person or I can join other I/O psychologist to help out an organization (Sternberg, 2017). If I were to get hired by a company then I work within the company to help with the employee problems, financial problems, etc.

The professionals and individuals that would best help in my professional network would be individuals who are I/O psychologist and people working within Human Resources. I would connect with people from Human Resources because if I do not go into consulting, I can work within human Resource as a manager or a person hiring new employees. Overall, it is always best to network with many people because a person may not be in my field but they may know others who are in my field and set me up with the right connections.

Reading the Sternberg text was really helpful because it went into depth about the advantages, disadvantages, a typical day-to-day summary, and many more aspects of an I/O psychologist. Looking on the websites also helped because I found out that I do not need to be licensed to become an I/O psychology and the resource guide helped me better understand the level of education I will be receiving, what I will get out of the overall courses, the degree, and career outcomes of an I/O psychologist.

I have no questions about the requirements in my career. I feel my interview, the Sternberg text, and research that I did helped me better understand what it takes to become an I/O psychologist. I know there may be questions that I will have in the future, but as of right now, I feel confident about my knowledge on my career requirements.

Post:

A special populations that I may work with as a helping professional would be individuals with co-occurring disorders. I currently work with dually diagnosed autistic children. These children suffer for mental health disorders as well as being on the spectrum. My consumers are classified with such things as bipolar, schizophrenia, ODD and attachment disorders as well. Understanding how substance abuse can affect individuals with coexisting mental health illness and substance abuse has been difficult in the past. However, with revisions made to the TIP 9 assessment treating these individuals successfully has increased. The treatment improvement protocols (TIPs) focuses on what a helping professional needs to know and provides information in an accessible manner (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2005).

One challenge that you make face when dealing with this population would be the lack of services and treatment centers available. Although the services have increased in the last two decades; there are still some short comings. These challenges show a poorer outcome for these individuals because of the lack of targeted treatment efforts (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2005). Another challenge would be trying to understand what diagnosis they have and how to treat it. Especially if the client is reluctant to share that information.

Strategies to overcome this challenges would be get a better understanding of these mental health disorders as well as finding an adequate assessment to measure the addiction and the mental illness; and how they relate to each other. Another way would to try and gain access to previous treatment or medical history; only if the client gives permission. If one was not understanding enough in regards to mental health issues seeking help from other professionals could also help in the treatment.

Homework for synco_solutions

This week, you will research and create an annotated bibliography of five peer-reviewed articles that were published within the last 10 years and relate to the article you selected in Week Two for your Article Review. The peer-reviewed articles you select should be researched in the Ashford University Library and represent a variety of viewpoints on the subject matter. They may support or refute the information presented in your chosen article for review. Each of the peer-reviewed articles must include a complete reference that is correctly formatted in APA style as outlined by the Ashford Writing Center and an annotation of five to six well-developed sentences in your own words that summarize the source and describe its applicability to your selected topic. Please note that no sections from the abstracts of the articles should be included in your annotation.

In your annotation for each peer-reviewed article, analyze psychology as a science as it is presented in the article and explain how it relates to this particular topic. Assess the professional roles presented in the article and describe how they relate to the roles as presented in the article you have chosen for review. Explain any psychological theoretical perspectives presented in the article and how they either support or refute the information provided in the review article. Evaluate contemporary applications of psychology as they are described in the article and compare these to the descriptions within the article for review.

For more in-depth assistance with your annotated bibliography, please visit the Ashford Writing Center located under the Learning Resources tab in the left-hand navigation panel of your online course.
